hello :) fall event time :)
HI EVERYONE!!! did you miss us sooooo much this summer? did you get sunburned? did you eat a hotdog? we did :)
here are a few cool upcoming events. we tried to limit it to JUST september, but i found an event in october that i couldn’t resist adding. we’re also trying something new… welcome to…
TTA’s Book of the Month!
We want to read more cool, interesting, alternative opera writing. So, we’ve decided to pick one book a month to read publicly! This month’s pick is Queen’s Throat: Opera, Homosexuality, and the Mystery of Desire. It’s a cult classic that came out in the ‘90s - something we’ve been meaning to read for a while. Find a copy and tell us what you think!
Ok back to the events! Here’s what caught our sweet little eyes this month:
The Tire Swing | Circus Opera Company | Opens 09/04
This show is part of Philadelphia Fringe! It’s a contemporary opera about “reconnecting with child-like joy as an adult”. The opera company has the word ‘circus’ in it and the show has the word ‘swing’ in it… I’m getting the sense that there might be some exciting high flying acrobatics involved!! More info and tix here.
Opera Gala | Fort Greene Orchestra | 09/12-14
I’ve talked about the Fort Greene Orchestra in this newsletter before. They do genuinely cool stuff; I always trust them to curate a great night out. Bring a date, bring a friend you want to impress! Tix and more info here.
Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria | ARTEK | 09/18-21
I LOVE this opera (or maybe I just know this opera really well? What’s the difference between loving something and Knowing it intimately?) and it isn’t performed super often. I’ll definitely be there! It’s verrrrrrry Monteverdi-ish in an incredible way. It’s a fascinating piece! Tix and more info here.
Vampira | Salon Avec Moi | 10/18
Ok, I really tried to JUST include September events in this newsletter, but Salon Avec Moi dropped their next event like an hour ago and I couldn’t resist including it. If you’re not already following this salon on Instagram, you simply gotta. They’re everything I dreamed of when I started this newsletter - cool and classical music-y with a strong POV. Their events are themed to a T and always in an interesting venue. You can either sign up to sing a piece (either MT or classical!) or attend as a non-singing and fashionable audience member. I’ll see you there! Tix and info here.
There are soooo many cool things happening this fall, and we can’t wait to tell you about all of them! Are you performing anything fascinating, strange, or exciting? Tell us about it by replying to this email or DM’ing us on instagram. Love you forever thanks for being part of the TTA family <3
