cool events on cool events and a DISCOUNT CODE!!
We got a sweet little whisper of spring early last week, which makes this dull, wet weekend even harder to live through. I know in two months I’ll be complaining about the heat, but for now I wish I was a little sweatier!! Let’s ignore this weather together and go see some recitals :)
Latonia Moore in Recital | Sun 4/28 at 4:30pm | The Blue Gallery
We are truly THRILLED to announce that we have an exclusive discount code for this event omg!! Use the code TTA25 at checkout for 25% off your tickets <333 How cool is that? THE Latonia Moore is giving a benefit recital for ArtSmart, an organization that provides music mentorship to under-resourced youth. There will be wine, there will be an art auction, there will be gorgeous singing. It’s at The Blue Gallery, which is a really unique space in midtown - it’s the type of venue that feels like it should be in Brooklyn but it’s near Grand Central lol. We’ll see you there!! Tix and info here.
Hildegard, Reborn | Opens 4/30
Our dear friend Rocky Duval wrote this musical play exploring Hildegard von Bingen’s voice through her letters. Rocky’s show combines Hildegard’s compositions with new work and involves a five person cast of singers, actors, flutists, and crystal bowl players. I’ve seen Rocky perform Hildegard’s music before and I found it transformational; I can’t wait to see how she weaves the ancient and the contemporary in this piece. There are three performances at two different venues: 4/30 and 5/1 on the LES, 5/2 at Lincoln Center.
Love is Strong: a happening | The Why Collective | 5/5
The Why Collective is a cool, eclectic group. They program a wide range of events, from original plays to full performances of Erik Satie’s Vexations, a 19-hour piano piece. They’re interdisciplinary and collaborative, and this event feels no different. This ‘happening’ will include singers, dancers, visual artists, and G.F. Handel. Like many things I share in this newsletter, I honestly don’t know what to expect with this show, but it has piqued my curiosity. Tix and info here.
What we’re reading this week
This piece on noise by Alex Ross. Alex Ross definitely loves the word ‘noise’ hahaha. This is a fun, philosophical essay on the boundaries of music - why do we pretend there’s a neat line in the sand between organized and non-organized sound?
What are reading? What music are you listening to? To what are you bearing witness??
